چکیده

Soil moisture (SM) estimatesare considered as a valuable input for various environment models, including weather forecasting, water management, agriculture, and forestry applications. In order to better understand the sources of SM error/bias and spatial variability, simulated with Land Surface Models (LSM), observed and simulated SM were compared. This comparison was performed over a spatial domain across the lower Mississippi river valley, aka the Mississippi Delta, during Summer/Fall months spanning years 2004 to 2006.

Accounting for Pliem-Xiu and NOAH Module to Simulate Dust: A Case of Western Areas of Ahwaz

Extended abstract 1- INTRODUCTION In the arid and semi-arid areas of Asia, dust storms occur frequently. Much progress has been made in the monitoring modeling and prediction of Asian dust storms. Dust emission is caused by wind erosion in the sensitive areas. Wind erosion is described as the transportation of soil particles by means of the wind. Soil Surface moisture is one of the most i...

Standardized Soil Moisture Index for Drought Monitoring Based on Soil Moisture Active Passive Observations and 36 Years of North American Land Data Assimilation System Data: A Case Study in the Southeast United States

Droughts can severely reduce the productivity of agricultural lands and forests. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Southeast Regional Climate Hub (SERCH) has launched the Lately Identified Geospecific Heightened Threat System (LIGHTS) to inform its users of potential water deficiency threats. The system identifies droughts and other climate anomalies such as extreme precipitati...

Hydrological evaluation of the Noah-MP land surface model for the Mississippi River Basin

[1] This study evaluates regional-scale hydrological simulations of the newly developed community Noah land surface model (LSM) with multiparameterization options (Noah-MP). The model is configured for the Mississippi River Basin and driven by the North American Land Data Assimilation System Phase 2 atmospheric forcing at 1/8° resolution. The simulations are compared with various observational ...

Global Soil Moisture from Satellite Observations, Land Surface Models, and Ground Data: Implications for Data Assimilation

Three independent surface soil moisture datasets for the period 1979–87 are compared: 1) global retrievals from the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), 2) global soil moisture derived from observed meteorological forcing using the NASA Catchment Land Surface Model, and 3) ground-based measurements in Eurasia and North America from the Global Soil Moisture Data Bank. Time-average ...

Spatio-temporal Consistency Analysis of Amsr-e Soil Moisture Data Using Wavelet-based Feature Extraction and One-class Svm

Soil moisture is one of the most important climatic parameters playing an important role in the global climate system. Soil moisture can be derived from in-situ measurements as well as remotely sensed observations. However, these measurements typically lack the spatial and/or temporal resolutions necessary for modeling and applications. Land surface models (LSM) can be used to simulate the land...
